Bass is actually from the viola da gamba family, having a different shape from the other three instruments. Bass, the lowest and largest, is played standing or on a stool. Upright bass is most often used in orchestra and jazz band, while electric bass is used in a rock band setting. Electric bass uses the same fingering but is played in guitar position.
